Speed is the SEO no one can fake
You can game keywords, buy links, and dress up thin content. You cannot fake a fast page. It either loads or it doesn't — and everything downstream depends on it.

Most SEO advice is about persuasion: convince the algorithm you're relevant, convince it you're trustworthy, convince it you're worth a click. Speed is different. There's nothing to argue. The page is fast or it is slow, and the machine measures it directly.
It's the foundation, not a tactic
Speed sits underneath everything else, which is why it gets overlooked. A slow site is crawled less thoroughly — the bot has a budget, and a sluggish page burns it. Pages that should be indexed quietly aren't. Your brilliant content never gets read because the reader gave up at the loading spinner.
The same physics applies to AI crawlers assembling answers. A page that times out is a page that doesn't make the citation. Clean architecture and fast delivery aren't separate from getting quoted — they're the precondition for it.
Every other SEO signal assumes the page actually loaded. Speed is the assumption everyone forgets to check.

And it doubles as conversion
Here's the part that makes speed irresistible: it pays twice. A page that loads in one second converts roughly three times better than one that takes five. Faster crawling, higher rankings, more bookings — one investment, three returns.
For a hotel chasing direct bookings, we cut the homepage to load under two seconds on mobile, where 70 to 80% of hospitality searches happen. The ranking lift was nice. The booking lift was the point.
Build the experience to be fast first, then decorate. Performance is the rare thing that satisfies the algorithm and the guest at the same instant — and the one signal a competitor can never simply copy.
